The hardest part about reading it is explaining what the book is about. Because it talks about everything and nothing.
In Solà’s prose, everything has a voice, because everything is alive: the storm cloud, the mountain, the mushrooms live and speak, and the dead, who wander the valley, are also alive, with chains on their feet: their memories.
The focus is on the family of Domenéc and Sió, and their two children, Mía and Hilari; although perhaps I should say that the focus is on the mountain itself.
This novel has left me amazed and full of poetry. Because the way Irene Solà creates this story that constantly travels between generations and characters. The writing is gorgeous, tender, dense, lyrical and violent.
Thank you Graywolf Press (@graywolfpress) for the book 🖤
